“Everyone becomes a manager someday” we were told
By working through a task and supporting others
We must plan, organize, lead and control
All in an attempt to complete our goal
To do this we can follow Theory X or Y
Doesn’t matter really whichever fits your style
As long as your acts are ethical during dilemmas
Your problems go away so just forget about them
With increasing diversity in the workplace we got to be just
Breaking through the Glass Ceiling is a must
In organizations we use many strategies
To be in a state we’d much rather be
Now we come to the end of this semester long journey
All of this fun in management 3120

Productivity of Blogging
There were many good as well bad things about the blog. The blog did help us reach out to other classmates but from looking at other people’s blog, it seems like the same people responded to the same blog. Perhaps if the groups in class were randomized and the blog entry corresponding to it required you to respond to your new group members’ blogs. This way, you are responding to different individual’s blogs while at the same time extending the class communication outside of class.
In the second goal of the blog which was thinking about the activities we conducted in class, I believe this was reached. I thought more about what I did in class and whatever I didn’t understand, the blog made me look up more info until I find out.
Well the blog did act as an easy 20 percent of our grade. Unfortunately, keeping up with blackboard has always been my problem so knowing due dates kind of gave me trouble. Nonetheless it was a good idea to help people get a better grade as well as learn material they might not have really understood in class. It kind of put less pressure on the exams which allowed a clearer mind to study for and take the exam.
I will probably post just during the breaks or when I have a lot of free time. After a while, I will probably forget that I have this blog. I usually don’t keep up with most of these internet sites.

D.I.S.C
My test results determined that I was a C which makes me Conscientious. This accurately reflects who I am as I do act in the same manner one would. I am exact, adhere to rules, follow certain structures, and very much so diplomatic. It’s tough for me to wholeheartedly choose a side particularly between friends. Some of the characteristics are incorrect such as being neat and doing a job correct the first time.
I would like to more of the D or Dominance type because I believe I can be more effective with such a personality. I think the older you get, the harder it is to become another type. To make the change you basically need to change a good chunk of your way of living, views, etc.
I think it is slightly helpful to determine individual’s management type just to have a sense of what they are like. I wouldn’t leave the test to strictly decide the type of person they are but instead as a reference point.

My Visions
One personal goal I have for the future is to save up money for a car. It may not be the most important thing but its something I wanted for a while and currently working at. I have tried previously but the cost for summer classes and family trips caused me to use the saved money. A business goal I have is to find a job within 3 months of graduation. I have been searching for companies that I can possibly find a job at. I am trying to get the amount of possible locations to about 7 before graduation. A third goal is within 5 years of graduating Baruch, along with my friends, start out own little business online.
To make these visions to come true I am trying to build up my resume with experience and skills that many companies are looking for. I am trying to learn programs that I will most likely use such as Microsoft Access, Excel, etc.

Decision Making Issue
During the decision making process in class, I ended up following the role of “avoidance.” I didn’t want to be this role but as I saw a group of 8-10 people up in the front arguing, adding one more person would make things even less efficient. As I witnessed more chaos and little arguments I realized that there were egos in the class that would impede the process. I actually tried to get involved and give a suggestion but I was quickly shutdown and told “Yea, we know. Don’t worry we got this.”
Knowing the end result of our troubles, I would have instead involved the class at the beginning of the voting process to get a grasp on the ideas that the people had. I realized talking in groups didn’t really matter because then the class would have to be polled anyways. If we had a more town hall like meeting, where anyone who wanted to voice their opinion can, our goals would have progressed quicker.

The Yo-Yo Plan
We wanted to create the most simple setup that would ensure the egg’s safety when dropped. Once we realized that only 8 straws and 2 feet of tape would be provided as well as one pair of scissors for the whole class, we began to plan. Quickly, everyone with ideas drew out how their setup would look and those who couldn’t draw instead spoke of their contraption. After viewing and hearing the group’s ideas, we concluded on one with a few changes. Basically, we let the two people who came up with the idea, lead the process. The suggestion was to create a chain of straws that would lower the egg as far down as 8 straws lengths would take us. This idea was constantly referred to resemble a yo-yo (lol). From there we hoped the drop wouldn’t be too far for the egg. Some doubts arose about the egg’s safety so we wanted to modify it. We figured that the egg would have to drop about 4 feet still with no protection around it. This was the major flaw of the original idea. We then decided to save one straw to wrap around the egg as a means of protection. This idea however made the drop even longer. Another group member suggested that we cut the straw length wise so that we can double the amount of material we had without breaking the rules. With this new length, we concluded that we can use 15 straws to create the yo-yo and use one straw to wrap the egg. The only problem with this idea is that with more chains, we would have to use more tape. Knowing this, we risked it and hoped that there would be enough tape for the assignment.
The plan was to have one person cutting the straws in half while another rips the tape into small pieces. Another person was to just hold the egg to make sure it doesn’t crack and risk the whole project. Three people were assigned the task of attaching the straws to one another. The last person brought whatever items the groups needed as well kept the time limit. In addition, that person was running around trying to get the group the scissor. As we began to tape the straws, we realized that the only female in our group excelled in taping the straws perfectly in which the right amount of tape was used and the straws were placed correctly. Having other people do it incorrectly, led us to go back and undue their work in order to have it redone. Once this was realized, we decided to let her tape the straws to ensure the project’s success.
In the end, our contraption was a success with many straw lengths and tape to spare. Everything went according to plan and we succeeded.

Work Problems
At my current job, Emigrant Savings Bank, we face a morale and respect problem. Nobody likes the Vice-President of the bank which leads to the mocking and cursing of her name. It has gotten to the point where some co-workers proceed not to follow her orders or do them in an untimely fashion. If this problems persist, it may lead to her cracking down and being a lot more aggresive causing more employees to act out.
In addition, the morale and motivation in the bank is low. Customers will be waiting in line and everyone whom is free will won't call "next." It has gotten to the point where motion sensored lights were installed so that if no customers are in front of the teller, a light would flash. My co-workers weren't happy with this and just led to more attitude with the boss. Employees take longer lunch breaks than they should leaving their co-workers to bear an extra burden. With these problems continuing, I don't know how we will function as a unit.
